"No.1 Family Estate Cuvée Virginie Méthode Traditionelle 2016: Impeccably composed and supremely elegant, this stunning Méthode Traditionnelle shows white flesh peach, lemon peel, acacia and yeasty characters on the nose. The palate exhibits outstanding concentration and focus, together with refined mouthfeel and bright acidity, leading to a persistent poised finish. Intricate and exquisitely detailed. A blend of 80% chardonnay & 20% pinot noir; matured on lees for three years 9 months. At its best: now to 2026 - 5 Stars, 96/100"

"No.1 Family Estate Cuvée Virginie Méthode Traditionelle 2016: Complex, youthful and layered bouquet with aromas of citrus and fresh brioche bun, white peach and wild flowers, strawberry and spice. Youthful, crisp, tense and dry. A fine yet abundant mousse and lively acidity enhance the flavours of citrus, strawberry and apple. A lovely long finish. Even better on the second day. Lovely drinking from today and through 2030 - 95/100"

"No.1 Family Estate Cuvée Adele Methodé Traditionelle 2013: Ultimate expression in exquisite elegance and stunning sophistication, this profound offering shows ripe stone fruit, acacia, patisserie and lemon pith characters on the nose, followed by a brilliantly focused palate that displays exceptional depth and drive. The wine exhibits outstanding line and seamless flow, beautifully framed by creamy mouthfeel and bright acidity. It’s restrained and gratifying at the same time. A blend of 80% Chardonnay and 20% pinot noir. Aged on lees for three-plus years. At its best: now to 2025."

"No.1 Family Estate No.1 Reserve, Methodé Traditionelle, NV: Extra ageing on lees (8 years) has given this magnificent Blanc de Blancs compelling style and sensual feel. The immensely complex bouquet shows golden peach, apple pie, rich floral and undeniable yeasty notes, leading to a superbly concentrated palate that’s multi-layered and lingering. This is completely delicious with gorgeous savoury nuances and creamy mouthfeel."

"No.1 Family Estate No.1 Rosé Méthode Traditionnelle NV: Daniel and Adele Le Brun are the pioneers and earliest producers of New Zealand high quality sparkling wine. Their first vintage was in Marlborough in 1980 and they have family ties in Champagne going back to 1684. It’s the blend of tradition and freedom that gives them the edge that comes through in their wines, such as this Rosé, made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes. It’s rich, toasty and full-bodied, while retaining elegance and freshness. A stunning pink bubbly."

"No.1 Family Estate No.1 Reserve, Methodé Traditionelle, NV: This is my favourite from this producer. Captivating and complex bouquet with a core of fruit, autolysis and bottle development. Finely woven scents of baked yellow stone fruits, citrus, baked apple, yeasty spices, and flowers. The palate reveals an equally complex and layered wine with a very fine mousse texture, a fabric of fruit and brioche butter-bread autolysis woven throughout. High acidity, rich in character and a long detailed finish. Drinkable now, yet still developing, best from 2020 through 2035. 97/100"

Dry, crisp and refreshing on the palate with layers of fruit and lees, integration, finesse and youth. Destined to age for several years to come, but also delicious today. Perhaps the perfect aperitif for Summer 2020 and through 2024. 95/100"

"No.1 Family Estate No.1 Rosé Méthode Traditionnelle NV: Made from Pinot Noir this bouquet shows off aromas of a fine, delicate, complex and enticing wine. Suggestions of Auckland rose and red cherry, pink apple skin and strawberry. Elegant and fine on the palate, no mistaking the energy of youth, acidity and freshness. The autolysis is at the core of the this wine with a line of sophistication and complexity. Lengthy finish with fruit flavours that reflects the bouquet. Drink now and through 2026+. 95/100"

"No.1 Family Estate No.1 Reserve Methodé Traditionelle NV: Sur lees & 8 years and you can tell! Really rich and soft, creamy, vanilla toned too. Sweet pastry, brioche note but finishes dry and fresh. Exquisite!"

Susy Atkins, Three Wine Men, London, November 2019

"No.1 Family Estate No.1 Cuvée Adele 2013: Medium to full brassy-yellow colour. The bouquet is mellow and restrained, bright and tight and fresh, but also imbued with marvellously mellow toasty aged complexity. The texture is fluffy and creamy in the mouth; the bubbles are an integral part of the creamy texture and the complexity is effortless and ultra-refined. There are candied citrus flavours that linger together with mixed dried fruits and an overweening sense of harmony and great symmetry. An outstanding wine. 5 Stars - 97/100"

Huon Hooke, The Real Review, August 2019
